Spirit Attachments; What are They and What Do They Do

An attachment is a spirit that, for whatever reason, decides to hang out with you for a while. The duration can vary from a few hours to a few weeks or months. Generally people are unaware of them as they often create no paranormal activity, however this is not always the case.

They can be picked up anywhere and although chances that you may go home with one from a haunted location may be higher, that is not necessarily the norm. You could be at a party, Walmart, the bank, a funeral or even walking down your own street. They can also move from one individual to another as easily as a germ moves through the air.

Some attachments are simply a curious spirit, that has gravitated to you for a reason only they spirit attachments2know. It could be that you remind them of someone they loved or knew, that your “energy” was interesting, or that you showed interest in some aspect of their life. Some just want to live life again, vicariously through your actions. Most individuals don’t have a clue there is an attachment in their life.

Other attachments, however, try to make themselves known and still go unnoticed

Have you ever misplace you keys or some other item; only to find it in a strange place that you never would have left it? Ever hear a noise or crash in another room only to find that something has been knocked over without rhyme or reason? Some are even able to bring you sudden ill feelings or emotions that are not in line with your normal day. For the most part however, these spirits stay for a few hours or days, get board and move on. Of course these are not usually the ones that get noticed, and not the ones to fear.

The ones generating a heightened level of activity and interfere with your life are more of a concern. These are usually negative spirits and possibly demonic entities. Your pets may notice them and fear going into a room that they’ve never had a problem with in the past. Interference with the electronics on your vehicle may prevent you from driving safely , or you may encounter distinct and unexpected mood swings that greatly interfere with your long term relationships.

spirit attachmentsPeople have seen ominous black shadows in their homes, heard voices they can’t explain and have odd anomalous things show up on photographs.  Many report  the distinct feeling that they are being watched and horribly disturbing dreams, thoughts and actions that don’t feel right but of which they can’t stop.

I have seen first-hand many of these occurrences.

A fellow investigator returned from a relaxing walk through a cemetery and that night felt something was watching her from behind. After falling asleep on the couch, she found that her brand new purse, which had laid behind the couch all night, had several  6 inch cuts in it the next morning. For several days afterwards she heard a howling at her bedroom window and knocking at her front door, only to find no one there.

Another time we had a visitor to our house displaying a very negative, definitely not herself, disposition and attitude. As friends do, we brought her out of what we simply thought was a funk and she let a few hours later in a much better mood. Interesting enough, and over the next several hours, the 3 remaining people each went through a similar “funk”.  This went as far as vocalizing malicious thoughts and displaying disturbing behavior.

As investigators experienced with negative attachments, it only took a short time to notice what spirit attachments3was happening;  our friend had come in with an attachment and it jumped from her to each of us.  In many instances ignoring an attachment works well; they eventually get board and move on.

In this instance, the first step in rectifying the problem was to recognize the attachment and support the effected individual with positive thoughts and conversation. If caught early enough, the attachment usually exists without further problems. This one did obviously did not and the process of positive conversation and laughter was infused again each time it jumped to another person.

Although, it can be very apparent to others, the one being effected by an attachment is easily blinded by it.

They will deny that they are behaving oddly or that anything is wrong. In being unable to recognize it, working through the process of getting rid of it is that much more difficult.  When the individual is not apt to help it allows the attachment safety and a reason to stay.

Recognizing it for what it is always weakens the negative attachment’s hold on someone. At that point ,the positive energy you provide is more easily accepted to which the attachment ultimately gives up and leaves. If however, the attachment is not recognized early enough, the battle can go on for weeks, months or even longer.

  1. Hello Debra. Thank you for putting this website out for people to find. I found this after viewing the “Haunting” episode about your experience in the house. I am not sure exactly where to place a message like this. Here will suffice, I suppose. Over my life I have had experiences concerning the supernatural/spirit world. My grandmother was a strong psychic and, in all honesty, a very eccentric person. However, speaking of spirits and attachments I would have to tell you about my wife and her experiences. compared to her, my experiences are most lacking. From her earliest memories she would see others, that none of her family could see. She would feel things and act ways that constantly had her mother telling people that their daughter lived in her own little world. When I took her to one of my grandparents homes, where I had experienced great feelings of fear and dread in certain places in the house, she had even more fear and dread, and told me why. When she was 7 her parents took her to Dachau concentration camp in Germany. Needless to say she was greatly traumatized. She saw things others did not. But she said the worst was the horror, fear, pain, dread, hopelessness, and evil she felt. She has an extreme ability for being an empath. She was balling the whole time she was there and her parents were angry. By the way, her parents are strict southern Baptists and they do not believe in the supernatural. Thus, they have always dismissed my wife’s actions or what she said she saw. It was not until she met me that she was able to open up about her experiences. She has had these experiences her whole life. She is a theraptist who works in a nursing home, as well as in people’s homes. Needless to say she sees, and hears, all sorts of things. Spirits/entities, move around all the time. They are often interested in aspects of life going on around them. Some are dark, some are good. Some are simply going about their everyday routines that they did as living beings. I will never forget the night I stayed at my mother’s house, which was my grandparent’s before the died. We were there with our family, including our 6 month old baby girl. We were sleeping in the living room on an air mattress. In the middle of the night my wife and I awoke to a lullaby being sung. I asked my wife what was going on, and she told me my grandmother was singing to our baby girl. The next night we awoke to dishes in the kitchen being used and the smell of rhubarb being cooked. (my grandmother used to can rhubarb and make rhubarb pie.) Nobody, living, was actually in the kitchen, but something was. A couple times my wife thought the entity she saw and interacted with was a living human, when in fact, she found out later, it was not. There are more experiences I could share, but the point is these spirits are there.

My wife has also had experiences being out in places and having, living people, scanning (for lack of a better word,) the people around them. Her last one was when she was in a dept store and felt a prescence in her mind. This particular prescence was simply observing people and making comments. But it was so powerful that my wife began to look around to see who was doing it. She found an elderly Asian man sitting on a bench just watching people. She looked at him and said, in her mind, “you are the one,” he looked at her and smiled. Crazy stuff.

I guess my point in posting this is that there are spirits around more than most people know. There is also a lot of residual energy left over from people that can effect the living in certain locations.

    • Hi Cory,

I feel bad for the experiences your wife has suffered alone in her younger years. I can’t imagine how excruciatingly debilitating the concentration camp was for her. I’m sure she found your open-mind most refreshing and more importantly, comforting.

I find it an amazing experience to have a passed loved one in your home and looking out for your family.

I also agree with you that human spirits can be seen just about anywhere. You can see them as you drive down the street, walk thru Walmart or sitting on a park bench. It’s the unseen world around us that most people are completely unaware of.

Thank you for sharing such personal experiences with me and everyone else on this website.

Blessings and safety to you and your family.

  2. Fascinating post,
I think most people are happy to remain blissfully ignorant to the existence of spirit, not that this disassociates any faith they may have, but allows a more peaceful existence perhaps?

  3. Hey,

I was never really a firm believer in spirits and what not. But the older I grow the more strange occurrences I seem to get and can’t seem to explain.
Is what you describe some sort of poltergeist maybe? Or am I getting confused.
It does scare me a little when I think of the possibilities of ghost living or being around me.
Your post is making me more open to such things but I’m not sure I like the open thought of spirits. I prefer to be blind to such things.
    Very interesting to read though.

    • Hi Esteban,

It is surely more comforting not to believe. It’s not what we were brought up to believe, and to think our elder’s maybe didn’t give us honesty or teach us everything doesn’t settle well with us. There are no ghosts, monsters under the bed and what you think you saw you didn’t, don’t trust your own eyes, ears or other senses either. This is what they have impressed upon us.

So yes, it is scary, it is intriguing, it draws you in because you want answers. As you grow older you want to know things like the meaning of life, if there is life after we die, where did grandma really go after she passed away and is there really a god. It poses questions about balance in life; the whole ying and yang of it all.
If there are angels, there must be demons. It can be a dangerous curiosity.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings on this.
